These large silver coins are modern restrikes of a design that has been in constant production since the 18th century. Based on the design of the original 1780 thaler of Empress Maria Theresa of the Habsburg Empire, these coins have been produced for bullion purposes by a wide range of countries all over the world. Maria Theresa was perhaps the most powerful ruler of the Habsburg Empire - During her 40-year reign, she secured control over most of Eastern Europe and strengthened the Empire with political reforms.
